More than an activity tracker, yet not quite a smartwatch, the Garmin Vivosmart has a host of features that justify its label of advanced tech wear. Besides monitoring steps, calories, and distance, it can display notifications from your smartphone, as well as control your media player.

There are no buttons—tapping the OLED screen twice activates the tracker. It comes with a USB spring-loaded clamp charging chord which isn't as easy to attach to as other bands. But since it's only a weekly endeavor, it's not overly inconvenient. The band displays time and date, steps, calories, daily goal, distance covered, and all notifications from your smartphone, including caller ID. Email and text messages show up on the display bar along with a vibration.

You can also create your own workouts and courses that can be shared or displayed on LiveTrack, which allows users to disclose their activity through social media, and the app links with the My Fitness Pal app.
