Naomi Osaka became the latest women’s tennis star to announce the release of a children’s book: “The Way Champs Play” is set to drop December 6th.

A portion of proceeds going to the former world No. 1’s foundation, Play Academy with Naomi Osaka.

“I hope this book inspires kids to chase their dreams and encourages them to believe they can do anything they put their minds to,” writes Osaka of the book illustrated by Kamala Nair.

Osaka’s announcement comes a week after the Serena Williams released “The Adventures of Qai Qai,” her own children’s book inspired by daughter Olympia’s favorite doll.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who played what will likely be her final Grand Slam match at the 2022 US Open last month, shared video of her and Olympia reading the book after styling her hair to match the main character.

Osaka and Williams are riding a wave of WTA stars-turned-authors, a wave that began last fall when 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu revealed she had co-authored her own book with Mary Beth Leatherdale entitled “Bibi’s Got Game: A Story About Tennis, Meditation, and a Dog Named Coco.”

The book was released earlier this spring.

Finally, former world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty may prove the most prolific as she not only announced the forthcoming release of a children’s book series, “Little Ash,” but also teased a memoir, “My Dream Life,” which will drop in Australia and New Zealand next month.

“This is the story of my journey to be the best I could be, not just as a tennis player but as a person,” Barty wrote back in August, having officially retired from the sport in March. “I’m now working on the final manuscript and selecting photos, I’m excited to share the finished book with you soon!”

The first four “Little Ash” books, co-authored by Jasmin McGaughey and Jade Goodwin, were released in July.

“I loved books growing up and watching the joy my niece now gets from reading inspired this series,” Barty explained on Instagram. “It's been so fun adding elements of my childhood to these stories, in a way that I hope will make children smile. I want these books to help kids learn to be comfortable with themselves and get the confidence to try new things.”

Looks like we’ve got our off-season reading list sorted!
