In a post-match interview with ex-coach Amelie Mauresmo, the Scot said, understandably, that he was tired. Stan Wawrinka had a noticeably easier time than his first round as he topped Taro Daniel, 7-6 (7), 6-3, 6-4. Americans Jack Sock and John Isner both advanced in straight sets (over Dustin Brown and Kyle Edmund, respectively).

Agnieszka Radwanska joined fellow seeds Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza in moving into the third round on Wednesday. Sloane Stephens advanced with a 7-6 (0), 6-1 win over Veronica Capede Royg, while fellow American Shelby Rogers beat Elina Vesnina, 6-4, 6-2. Irina-Camelia Begu beat CoCo Vandeweghe in a nearly four-hour marathon, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 10-8.

In her French Open post-match press conference, Varvara Lepchenko repeatedly said “no comments” when she was asked about the rumor that she took time away from the tour earlier this year because she tested positive for meldonium. Lepchenko lost to Ekaterina Makanrova, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round.

Meanwhile, Bernard Tomic, criticized in Madrid for attempting to play match point with the butt of his racquet, admitted he shouldn’t have said that he didn’t care about it because he’s worth $10 million. Though, in his interview on Wednesday, he didn't walk away fully apologetic as he added, “I don't really care. Maybe if I had $100 (million), that's different."
