The Laver Cup announced two additions to the player rosters at the eighth edition of the annual team event, being held September 19-21 at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Germany's Alexander Zverev will join Spain's Carlos Alcaraz on Team Europe, and Ben Shelton will join fellow American Taylor Fritz on Team World.

“I love being part of the Laver Cup, being teammates with some of the greatest players in the world is very special,” said Zverev, a noted basketball fan. “I’m also really looking forward to San Francisco this year. It is super exciting to be playing at the home of the Golden State Warriors, it will be so cool to play in their arena and experience the atmosphere.”

Zverev has competed in five Laver Cups, including the inaugural showdown in 2017. Moreover, each year that he played, he’s been on the winning side.

Last year, Zverev teed up Alcaraz to clinch Team Europe’s first victory since 2021. The German shut down Team World’s Frances Tiafoe, who was on a winning streak in Berlin, in a deciding, super tiebreak. Alcaraz then won his singles match against Fritz for the 13th and deciding point.

Shelton is back for his third consecutive appearance in the international competition.

“Laver Cup brings out the best in players—it’s high stakes, high intensity and full of drama,” said debuting Team World captain Andre Agassi. “Ben is an explosive talent and thrives in this team environment. He’s had a strong start to the season, and I’m focused on building a team that will be ready to take on Europe in September!”

Agassi and Team Europe's Yannick Noah are stepping into the captain’s roles as John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg step down.
