The German has just qualified for the Tour Finals in London, and would be the highest-ranked player eligible for Milan. The two events are back-to-back, with the Paris Masters the week before. Zverev, for the moment, is entered for all three events.

"Obviously I haven't talked to anyone of my team yet because I just qualified for London 15 minutes ago. Obviously that's a big impact on all the scheduling," said Zverev following his quarterfinal win this week at Beijing. "But I think Milan is a great event. I think the ATP is doing a great job in promoting us young guys. So far that's the plan."

The NextGen Finals, an event for the top players 21 years or younger, is being organized by the ATP tour but carries no ranking points. Players who qualify for both the NextGen and ATP Tour Finals are allowed to skip the NextGen event with no penalties.

Zverev said he would still attend Milan, even if he does not play. "It's a great thing what the ATP is trying to do. I think the [event] will be a good success, a great success for the ATP and for the younger generation."

Zverev is currently fourth in the ATP rankings.
