VIENNA (AP) Third-seeded Nicolas Almagro defeated Santiago Giraldo 7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 6-3 Thursday in the Bank Austria Trophy.
The 16th-ranked Spaniard failed to serve out the match at 5-4 in the second set but dominated the tiebreaker.
Almagro, seeking his third title of the year, will face eighth-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela, who rallied to beat qualifier Grega Zemlja 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3.
Michael Berrer reached his fourth quarterfinal of the season by defeating last week's Moscow finalist Pablo Cuevas 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
