In the August issue of TENNIS Magazine, Amelie Mauresmo talks about how winning her first Grand Slam has changed her life. But through the ups and downs of her career, one thing has remained a constant—her love of wine. She estimates that she has 800 vintage bottles in her wine cellar at home in Geneva. In this online exclusive, we asked Mauresmo to name her three favorite bottles in her personal collection. It’s hard to play favorites, but she was game.
1. 1986 Château Mouton Rothschild
“The best I’ve ever tried. It felt like perfection when I tasted it, very soft and smooth and yet very powerful at the same time.”
2. 1982 Château Margaux
“It was amazing, more powerful even than the Mouton Rothschild. I had it last summer but it gets even better as it ages.”
3. 1945 Château Ausone
“Guy Forget opened that bottle for me about five years ago and I just felt, ‘Wow, this is good wine, this is what I’m going to try to have a collection of.’ I want to open this kind of bottle at every opportunity.”—Whit Sheppard
