NEW YORK (AP) American teenager Christina McHale's best run at a Grand Slam tournament ended with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to 25th-seeded Maria Kirilenko of Russia in the U.S. Open's third round Friday night.

The 55th-ranked McHale, a 19-year-old from Englewood Cliffs, N.J., upset eighth-seeded Marion Bartoli, the 2007 Wimbledon runner-up, in the second round. But she wasn't able to follow that up.

Kirilenko won 24 of 28 points when she went to the net, compiled a 22-10 edge in winners, lost serve only once and broke McHale four times during the match in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Kirilenko reached the fourth round at the U.S. Open for the first time.
