Donna Vekic, the girlfriend of Stanislas Wawrinka, has criticized Nick Krygios' comments but wants to keep her attention on tennis.
Vekic was at the center of the derogatory remarks made by Kyrgios towards Wawrinka during their match last week in Montreal, which have provoked international controversy.
"It’s not easy, but I’m trying to focus on tennis and my next match," Vekic told the *Vancouver Province*. The 19-year-old is playing a challenger tournament in Vancouver this week.
Kyrgios issued a statement saying he had apologized to Vekic, among others. But the Croatian said she had not heard from him or from Thanasi Kokkinakis, who was the subject of the most prominent Krygios remark. Kokkinakis told Fox Sports that he had spoken to both Wawrinka and Vekic.
"I haven’t spoken to Kyrgios," Vekic said. "But it’s a very disappointing thing to be happening in our sport and I hope it won’t happen again because it’s not a very good image for our sport."
Once ranked No. 62, Vekic has fallen to No. 128, but attributed the slide to not being physically ready to compete with older players instead of outside factors.
"I've been working hard and I feel like [my game's] coming together,'" she said.
