Azarenka plans to play Miami following her second-round defeat

Victoria Azarenka plans to play Miami following her second-round defeat at Indian Wells, but says she cannot announce the rest of her schedule at the moment.

"A week ago I wasn't sure I was going to be here," she said following her first-round win at the tournament. "I'm definitely going to Miami...hope in Miami, I'll have some more news."

Azarenka, a wild card at the event, won her opener and fell to Sloane Stephens in straight sets. It is the first tournament she has played since the grass-court season because her travel has been restricted by custody problems involving her son, Leo.

Azarenka discussion:

"I have played—I don't know how many—seven matches in two years or whatever. So it's not that bad, but as I said, you know, the quality of my tennis is a long way to go," she said.

Though she acknowledged it had been difficult to concentrate on training with her off-court problems, Azarenka pointed to the resilience she has demonstrated, saying, “I wouldn't expect myself to be this calm and this positive and this optimistic for this long period of time... And I need to get, you know, confidence back because there is no other way than going out there and failing, getting up, failing, getting up, but just working hard."

Azarenka is a former No. 1 and two-time Australian Open champion.
