ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP)—Marcos Baghdatis fired nine aces to upset second-seeded Andy Murray 6-4, 6-1 and advance to the second round at ABN-Amro World Tennis Tournament Wednesday.

Murray, who was playing his first match since losing the Australian Open final to Novak Djokovic, made a fine start, breaking the Cypriot twice to lead 3-0, but Baghdatis fought back and reeled off four games in a row from 4-2 to take the opening set.

Baghdatis broke the 2009 winner in the fourth game of the second set to take control en route to claiming the win in 61 minutes.

Baghdatis next plays Spaniard Feliciano Lopez who dismissed Florian Mayer 6-3, 6-4.

Earlier Wednesday, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga rallied from a set down to beat fellow Frenchman and 2008 winner Michael Llodra 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In a tight match that saw just one service break in each set, the eighth-seeded Tsonga served nine of his 15 aces in the decisive third set at Rotterdam’s Ahoy Stadium.

“Michael is one of the best players on this surface,” Tsonga said.

Tsonga next meets either No.4 Tomas Berdych or Russian qualifier Dmitry Tursunov.

In the day’s other second-round match, Croatia’s Marin Cilic beat fifth-seeded Jurgen Melzer 6-2, 6-4.
