The Barcelona Open paid tribute to former IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch with a minute of silence on court before the start of a Wednesday match played only hours after the Catalan dignitary died in a local hospital.

Albert Agusti, president of the Real Club de Tennis Barcelona, said that Samaranch had been planning to attend this year’s final. “He was a visionary, always interested in sports and very much in our club life," Agusti said of Samaranch, who was 89.—M.C.
