With her title run in Osaka, Marion Bartoli keeps alive her hopes of qualifying for the WTA Championships, to be held October 25-30 in Istanbul. However, in order to grab the eighth and final spot she needs to win Moscow next week and hope that Agnieszka Radwanska, who is seventh place in the points race, loses her opening match.
The doubles team of Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova secured the final spot in the four-team doubles field of the WTA Championships when they reached the final of Osaka and the fifth place team of Victoria Azarenka and Maria Kirilenko decided not to sign up for doubles in Luxembourg, taking them out of the running. Azarenka, who is the top seed in singles, has been bothered by a right foot injury.
The rest of the WTA Championships doubles field includes Kveta Peschke/Katarina Srebotnik, Liezel Huber/Lisa Raymond and Gisela Dulko/Flavia Pennetta.
