Benesova ends Halep's run with title win in Fes

Iveta Benesova wins her second career title, defeating Simona Halep 6-4, 6-2 in Fes.

Benesova, whose previous title victory came in Acapulco more than six years ago, also won the doubles with Anabel Medina Garrigues.

"It has been such a long time since , six years," said Benesova. "I'm just happy I could make it again. I'm happy I could play both events here - Anabel really helped me a lot, she’s a great player. And winning both singles and doubles... it couldn't be better

Halep, who garnered tabloid attention last year when she decided to undergo breast reduction surgery to improve her play, was playing her first WTA final. The 18-year-old former junior champ took out second seed Patty Schnyder in the quarterfinals.
