MONTERREY, Mexico(AP) American qualifier Vania King rallied from 6-3, 4-1 down to upset fifth-seeded Agnes Szavay 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the Monterrey Open second round on Thursday.
King fell behind 4-0 to start the match, and looked to be out when she fell behind by two breaks in the second set.
But King started attacking the Hungarian's serve, and completed the comeback by saving the one break point she faced in the last set as Szavay hit five double faults.
Sixth-seeded Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic, at a career-high 31st ranking after reaching the Acapulco semifinals last week, defeated Roberta Vinci of Italy 7-6, (4), 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.
