PARIS(AP) Tomas Berdych has beaten French qualifier Vincent Millot 6-3, 7-6 (4) to reach the second round of the Paris Masters.

Berdych served 10 aces and broke his opponent three times on the way to his 1-hour, 25-minute victory Monday. Berdych won this event in 2005.

The 247th-ranked Millot wasted a 5-2 lead in the second set and his Czech opponent finished the match with an ace on his first match point.

Berdych is 20th in the ATP rankings. He will next face 14th-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain.

Also, Italian Andreas Seppi beat Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-3, 6-3 and Ivo Karlovic of Croatia had 21 aces in a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory over Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay.
