Our picks for the best new string of the season.
Gamma Tour Plus Natural Gut 16
For playability, comfort, and control, it’s hard to beat the performance of natural gut. The one knock on the strings could be that they’re not as durable as synthetics. So Gamma has upgraded the packaging of their gut strings by vacuum sealing them in a Dri-Shield Moisture Barrier bag to prolong their lifespan. This prevents added moisture from escaping or entering the package and potentially damaging the strings. The gut will stay pristine right up until the time you put it in your racquet.
Tecnifibre Multifeel 16
It can be tricky balancing durability and comfort. Usually you have to sacrifice one to get the other. The Multifeel from Tecnifibre wants to be an exception. It’s made with a monofilament in the middle to give the string its backbone. Surrounding that core are bundles of 985 multifilaments that provide the playing characteristics. The whole thing is held together by polyurethane, which reduces vibration and adds comfort for an overall soft feel.
Babolat Attraction 16
Just as with the Multifeel, Babolat’s Attraction is a multifilament string that uses a polyurethane coating to make it easy on the arm. It’s designed to favor control and durability more than power. If you’re looking for a string with a little more pop, Babolat has another alternative—the Attraction Power 17. This thinner string provides extra jump off the racquet and enhanced feel.
Wilson Reflection 16
If you use one of the racquets in Wilson’s W line, Reflection strings may be the perfect complement. Available in the six colors of the W line (pink, lime, red, blue, natural, and black), Reflection strings are stylish as well as functional. The multifilament has a soft feel and the alloy wraps on the surface provide added durability. Just as with the racquets, when you purchase Reflection strings Wilson makes a donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
