In an uncomfortably sad scene Monday night at the Miami Open, former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu was taken off the court in a wheelchair after suffering what can only be described as a devastating injury.

Trailing Ekaterina Alexandrova by a set, but leading the second 2-0, Andreescu moved toward a ball during a rally and then suddenly collapsed to the court, holding her leg and ankle. It became immediately evident that this was a serious matter, given the 22-year-old's reaction.

Everyone on the court, from the chair umpire to Alexandrova to tournament officials, came over with ice, towels and their support, before Andreescu was wheeled off. Adding to the heartbreak was Andreescu's family in the stands, with tears streaming down their faces.
