WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP)—Former top-five player James Blake is getting a wild-card invitation for this year’s U.S. Open.

Blake, of Tampa, Fla., is a two-time quarterfinalist at the season’s final Grand Slam, but a knee injury and a series of early losses dropped his ranking outside the top 100.

Other men receiving wild cards from the U.S. Tennis Association on Tuesday were Bradley Klahn of Poway, Calif., Jack Sock of Lincoln, Neb., Ryan Sweeting of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Donald Young of Atlanta, Carsten Ball of Australia, and Guillaume Rufin of France.

An eighth wild card will go to the winner of a playoff in Boca Raton, Fla., beginning Wednesday.

The U.S. Open starts Aug. 30.
