The Daily Mail in Great Britain has taken aim at some foreign players during this 2013 Wimbledon event. That is, when it's not cannibalizing its own. Here is the latest scurrilous scuttlebutt that it has perpetrated on its pages:
- Live@Wimbledon personality and former WTA pro Annabel Croft made headlines when she commented on Serena Williams' derriere at a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) event, allegedly saying that it appeared a wedding dress was laid out in the women's locker room, what turned out to be Serena's Wimbledon match dress. Of course the paper couldn't resist laying into Croft in the matter: "Laura Robson, who has now reached the third round at Wimbledon as many times as Croft managed, yesterday described Serena as the greatest female tennis player of all time."
- Next Robson was again in the mix, not of her own volition, though, when the same publication opted to take on the weight and conditioning of her fourth-round opponent, Kaia Kanepi. Or, really, the weight and conditioning circa 2006 of said opponent. It's a mean-spirited, not-at-all timely or relevant piece (of horsepucky) that recalls the dreadful, even harmful takes on Monica Seles' own weight after she returned to Wimbledon post-stabbing.
What say you, Spin readers? Does the paper commit a double-fault here or is it to be taken lightly, with a grain (or a boulder) of salt? Sound off below.
