I figured at some point, we might as well use "Crisis Center" literally, and this is it. The way the WTA is going, there may be nobody left to enter the US Open, except, of course, Maria Sharapova. That she will belly crawl in with a withered right arm and a strange growth covered with green-and-yellow fungus on here right shoulder hardly matters. She will still sing "I feel pretty" and go out there and give her ungainly best.
She will play, because somebody must, and Sharapova does. Say what you will about her, she fulfills the first obligation of a professonal: she shows up. Yesterday, another WTA warrrior princess bit the dust, due to breathing problems. This commonly is thought to be code for "choking", but it appears that in this case Eleni Danilidou was just plain ill. So what else is new? Check out Nicole Vaidisova's prognosis, or start taking bets on which of the Williams sisters - if either - is going to arrive in New York and declare, "I'm good to go!"
Anyway, we've got a few weeks to sort out but meanwhile, use this post to call and/or discuss matches in either Carson, Montreal, or anywhere else the ATP or WTA may be played.
Okay, who's that girl?
