BUCHAREST, Romania (AP)—Jeremy Chardy easily advanced to the second round of the BCR Open Romania on Tuesday, while seeded players Victor Hanescu and Daniel Gimeno-Traver both lost.

The eighth-seeded Chardy needed just an hour to dispatch Guillaume Rufin of France 6-0, 6-2 after breaking his opponent five times.

Fifth-seeded Gimeno-Traver of Spain lost the longest match of the day, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) to Carlos Berlocq of Argentina after more than 3 hours, while Hanescu wasted a one-set lead in a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 loss to Marcel Granollers of Spain.
