Twins

Mornin' folks. Mike and Bob Bryan, busy as bees becoming the most successful doubles team in history, prevented an embarrassing home-court shutout and kept the USA's very, very dim hopes of surviving a quarterfinal clash with Spain in Austin, Tx. This was the fourth time the Bryans saved the team's hash; unfortunately, each previous time the USA still ended up losing the tie.

The USA hasn't come back from a two-rubber deficit to win since 1934 (vs. Australian). But as USA captain Jim Courier said after the Bryans performance, "History means nothing out here." That's often true in tennis, and never moreso than in Davis Cup. The Spanish might not like the idea very much, but imagine if Mardy Fish blasts his way past David Ferrer (on this Premier court, it's possible) - that sets up a re-match of the Wimbledon battle in which Andy Roddick was upset by Feliciano Lopez, with the tie on the line.

Enjoy Day 3 of Davis Cup, be back with you tomorrow.
