Due to the devastating earthquake that struck Chile last weekend, Chilean Davis Cupper Nicolas Massu told Radio Cooperativa that it would have been better to delay this weekend’s upcoming tie against Israel.

“For us it would be ideal if the tie had been postponed at least two days, but this is what the International Tennis Federation decided,” said Massu, adding that he’s been unable to train since the quake struck.

“But the Israelis are in the same situation. We'll be all equal.”

The International Tennis Federation and the Chilean Tennis Federation have agreed to try and start the tie on time on Friday in city of Coquimbo.

In an official statement, however, the Chilean Tennis Federation said that if the tie was completely under its control, "we would have suspended it.”—Matthew Cronin
