Coffee is a funny thing. Powered by caffeine, it's the wonder-drug of cubicle-bound workaholics and the elite alike. Even the Spin keeper has fallen prey to it recently, drinking coffee on seven consecutive days for the first time ever this past week.

And as it so happens, amusing coffee-centric moments now bookend this tennis season. Not many are framing it as such, but Stan Wawrinka took a move out of Serena Williams' 2015 playbook this past weekend when he had java delivered court-side during a changeover while playing Rafael Nadal at the ATP World Tour's Paris Masters event.

"Stanimal" felt under-energized but, in Serena-esque fashion, went on to claim victory, ultimately defeating Rafa 7-6 (8), 7-6 (7). He quipped about the cup-of-joe incident later on social media.

A particularly comical Twitter account had fun with the coffee break as well, opining that Wawrinka would need a veritable water-cooler of java in going up next against the streaking Novak Djokovic.

And it came to pass: Wawrinka fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 to the Djoker, who went on to enjoy the last laugh in dispatching Andy Murray in the final, 6-2, 6-4. Coffee doesn't contain gluten, but Djokovic of all people has no need for the stuff.
