A customer has asked that when I string his racquet I skip every other cross string. This will create wider gaps than between the mains. Is this legal?—Jerry Groce, Ashland, KY
Perfectly. Appendix II of the ITF Rules of Tennis states that the "stringing pattern must be generally uniform and, in particular, not less dense in the center than in any other area." What you are describing would appear to create a "generally uniform" pattern. Be sure to give him a discount for the string you save.
Except where noted, answers are based on the ITF Rules of Tennis and USTA's The Code.
