Dan Evans receives a wild card to make his ATP return at Queen's Club

Dan Evans has received a wild card into the tournament at Queen's Club, which will be his first ATP event since returning from an anti-doping suspension for cocaine use.

Evans is 16-4 in Challenger play in his comeback, including a loss to Alex de Minaur in the final of this past weekend's Nottingham event. Having started with no ranking, he is almost into the Top 500 in just a few weeks and will now be even higher.

But there has been controversy about whether he should be given wild cards as he returns, with a British MP vocally arguing in his favor. Evans received a qualifying wild card into his first event, but had not received any others from the LTA until Queen's.

Evans was pleased with the announcement, especially under the circumstances.

"Obviously I put people in a terribly awkward position and I can only say thank you to those people who backed my corner... to give me an equal chance at that wild card," he was quoted as telling press at the Nottingham challenger, though acknowledging, "There will still be people who don’t think it’s the right decision."
