On Tuesday, world No. 8 Juan Martin del Potro defeated Spanish veteran David Ferrer 6-4, 7-6 (3) at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Del Potro, who is fresh off a title run at the Acapulco Open, had to work for this win, but he looked strong in doing so.
The Argentinean's serve was especially impressive, as Del Potro won 87 percent of his first-serve points and 75 percent of all service points. If you need another stat to tell you just how well he was serving, Del Potro faced only one break point the entire match—which he saved.
The difference in this match was simply the difference in strength between the two players.
Ferrer did all he could and tried to move his lethal opponent around the court in hopes of eliciting errors. The Argentinean was moving well, however, and when he was able to track shots down, he knew exactly what to do with them. Del Potro blasted his forehand all over the court, and even Ferrer, who is known for his defensive prowess, was having trouble getting his racquet on the ball.
