TORONTO(AP) Elena Dementieva has advanced to the semifinals of the Rogers Cup with a tough three-set win over Australia's Samantha Stosur.

The fourth-seeded Russian overcame an error-filled first set in the 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3 victory that earned her the first spot in the semifinals. Dementieva will face second-seeded American Serena Williams or Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic.

Later Friday, No. 5 Jelena Jankovic takes on Alisa Kleybanova of Russia while No. 14 Agnieszka Radwanka of Poland faces Maria Sharapova of Russia.

Players fought the wind on a breezy afternoon at the Rexall Centre, but Dementieva was able to adjust as the match went on. She took advantage of two double-faults by Stosur - her ninth and 10th of the match - to close out the third set.
