Day 13: Heineken House
The other night, a few of us wandered up to the Heineken House, the best-kept secret at this year's U.S. Open. Located above the Food Village, but entered via a subtly situated set of stairs around the bend near Court 17, Heineken House is a spacious, open-air beer garden with a Heineken-only bar ($8.50 per glass, regular or light) and a food bar offering sandwiches like the Dagwood ($15) and a Broccoli Cuban Panini ($13), as well as prepared bar snacks and chips. There are picnic tables and benches, lounge-style seating with monitors airing the show-court action, a photo booth, and games.
And so, today's dish isn't an actual dish, but a destination that we wish we'd found earlier in the tournament. (And, no, this post isn't sponsored.) If you're on the grounds this weekend, it's a terrific, under-utilized spot for a respite from the crowds; if not, file it away for next year's visit.
