After having a successful Asian swing while being coached by the USTA's Mike Sell. American Donald Young has decided to go back to be coached by his mother, Ilona, TENNIS.com has learned. ??Young, who fought with USTA Player Development in the spring after he was not automatically granted a Roland Garros wild card, ended up mending fences with the organization. He reached the fourth round of major for the first time at the 2011 U.S. Open and met with USTA Player Development during the tournament, where an agreement was reached between Young, his parents and the USTA about the extent of assistance he would receive. Young asked to be coached by Sell, the former coach of Monica Seles who coached Young earlier in his career and is said to know his game very well.

During the Asian fall swing, Young reached his first ever ATP final in at the Thailand Open after upsetting No. 9 Gael Monfils. He also qualified and reached the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai.

Young's mother Ilona, who is a teaching pro, did travel with him to Asia but was said to be there for parenting and nothing more.

Young’s reason for the decision is so far unclear, but a source told TENNIS.com that the USTA asked Young to go to one of its training center to work out and practice during the off-season and he refused.  - MC
