Doubles Take: A look at the WTA Finals

The WTA Finals doubles tournament begins on Thursday with the sport's top teams ready to vie for the title. Here's a look at the duos who'll be in action, along with the details on how they made it to the elite eight.

Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova

For a good portion of the year, the Czechs were in flashback mode to their junior days, when they dominated in doubles. They won the French Open and Wimbledon, five years after capturing the girls’ titles at those majors.

Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic

The '18 season marked a perfect reunion for the 2014 Wimbledon finalists. They won their first major together in Australia, then finished up the Slam season with a runner-up showing at the US Open.

Andrea Hlavackova/Barbora Strycova

Consistency was a strong point for the Czechs, which helped them make up for lost time as they started the first few months of the season with different partners. They closed out the regular season on a tear with three finals in Asia, winning one of them in Beijing.

Elise Mertens/Demi Schuurs

Schuurs is arguably the doubles player of the year, winning seven titles on the season. Four of those came with Mertens as the duo won events on every surface in 2018.

Gabriela Dabrowski and Yifan Xu

For the second year in a row, the Canadian/Chinese pair won two titles (in Sydney and Eastbourne). They also reached the Indian Wells and Wimbledon semifinals as well as the Beijing final. Those results helped propel them to another appearance in Singapore.

Nicole Melichar and Kveta Peschke

Finding a comfort level on the court, no matter the playing conditions, Melichar and Peschke made their first major final together at Wimbledon. They also won titles on clay and hard courts during the year.

Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Andreja Klepac

In the first half of the season, the veteran duo reached four finals on three different surfaces. That versatility helped the team land a spot in Singapore.

Ashleigh Barty and CoCo Vandeweghe

If there was an award for best team for hard court performers, these two could make a strong case for it. After winning Miami in the first half of the year, they teamed up at the US Open to win the title, a first major for both of them.
