TC Live: Raducanu's road to the US Open crown

Emma Raducanu was watched by 9.2 million television viewers in Great Britain as she wrapped up her surprise win at the US Open.

The figure was the equivalent of 40 percent of the total viewing audience for the time slot, including 48 percent of 16-34-year-olds.

That is more than the 7.9 million high for this year's BBC coverage of Wimbledon, and more than half the 17.29 million who tuned in to watch Andy Murray 2013 triumph at Wimbledon.

The women's final between Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez was hastily arranged to be shown on network TV following of the British 18-year-old's run, with Channel 4 paying more than seven figures for the rights, according to PA. The rest of the tournament has only been shown via online streaming in Britain.

Raducanu is the first qualifier to ever win a major title. She skyrocketed from No. 150 to No. 23 on the latest WTA rankings as a result of her historic run.
