Best String Innovation: Mini String Reels

Everybody likes to save by buying in bulk, but everyday players that string their own racquets don’t need the 600-700 feet of string that comes in a full reel. So Wilson and Luxilon have introduced mini-reels that come with three full sets (or six halves for hybrids) and a handy chart on the back to keep track of how much string you have left.

Best Tweener Frame: Prince O3 Speedport Red

In the category of racquets that’s somewhere between an intermediate and advanced player’s stick, this was our favorite. According to the Tennis Industry Association, of the racquets introduced in the past 12 months, the O3 Speedport Red is the top-selling frame in specialty stores for the first half of 2007. With its playability and all-court appeal, it’s easy to see why.

Best Lightweight Shoes: Wilson Open and Adidas ClimaCool Feather III

Both models are light and well ventilated. But what makes them special is that they don’t sacrifice stability and support. The Open is for men only, but the Feather covers both genders.

Best Updates: Wilson [K] Six.One and Babolat AeroPro Drive with Cortex

The next in line in the Six.One family lived up to its good lineage by adding nano fibers to strengthen the frame and an extended base right above the grip for enhanced forgiveness and pop without sacrificing control. For Babolat’s AeroPro Drive, adding Cortex to the shaft helped reduce vibrations and increase comfort.
