MONACO(AP) Roger Federer has made a successful season debut on clay with a 6-4, 6-4 second-round win over Andreas Seppi of Italy in the Monte Carlo Masters.
The second-ranked Federer was playing his first match since getting married last week in his hometown of Basel, Switzerland, to longtime girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec.
Federer's win Wednesday sets up a Thursday match against 13th-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka, who defeated Martin Vassallo Arguello of Argentina 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
