PARIS(AP) Roger Federer says shortening the ATP Tour season would benefit players and tournament organizers.
Speaking at the Paris Masters, Federer said the schedule has improved since he started on the tour. But the 16-time Grand Slam winner adds he would like a longer offseason.
Federer says ``four weeks is just not an offseason, really. Six weeks is much better.''
The ATP board of directors will meet during the ATP Tour World Finals in London next week to vote on schedules for 2012 and 2013. Some of the proposals include shortening the calendar by two or three weeks.
Federer will open against Richard Gasquet. He hopes to improve his best result at the Paris Masters, saying ``quarters is just not good enough for me.''
