PARIS (AP) Roger Federer reached a record 28th straight Grand Slam quarterfinal by defeating Davis Cup teammate Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 at the French Open on Sunday.

The third-seeded Federer has yet to lose a set this year at Roland Garros and will next face either No. 7 David Ferrer or No. 9 Gael Monfils.

Federer won the title in Paris in 2009 and was knocked out in the quarterfinals last year.

He broke for a 6-5 lead in the third set when the 14th-seeded Wawrinka buried an easy volley in the net before serving out the match.

Federer and Wawrinka won the men's doubles gold at the 2008 Olympics.
