Federer to play Madrid Open; still no announcement about Rome

This will be the 17-time Grand Slam champion's second tournament

Roger Federer will play the Madrid Open, his agent, Tony Godsick, confirmed to the ATP tour.

The Masters tournament also tweeted that Federer would be in Spain for his second clay-court event of the season. It will be his second tournament following arthroscopic knee surgery.

Federer returned in Monte Carlo, where Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated him in the third round. Following that tournament, the 17-time Grand Slam champion said he would take a few days to decide the rest of his clay-court schedule going into the French Open.

He has not yet announced if he will play the Masters event in Rome the following week.

Federer is No. 3 in the rankings.
