American Mardy Fish and Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov had to be separated by the referee during a changeover at the Hopman Cup. Reuters reported that the pair traded insults throughout their singles and mixed doubles matches in a tie that ended with a 2-1 win for Bulgaria.
Dimitrov trounced Fish 6-2, 6-1 in singles before teaming with Tsvetana Pironkova to beat Fish and Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the mixed doubles. During the mixed doubles, Fish was said to have hit a ball at Dimitrov, and then approached him as he sat in a chair during a changeover. The referee had to separate them. It is unclear what Fish was upset about. "I’m sorry if I did something wrong," Dimitrov told reporters. "I’m going to also apologize to him in the lockers when I see him, but I don’t want to say much else about it."
