Mardy Fish has won his second title in a row, defeating John Isner 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) to win the inaugural ATP event in Atlanta.
Fish, who has credited his recent good form to improved fitness -- he has dropped 30 pounds since undergoing knee surgery—won in two hours and 45 minutes against the most famous tennis marathoner of all.
Isner went down an early break in the the third set and appeared to be tiring, but rebounded to force a deciding tiebreak. The 6'9" American continued to add to his growing reputation for long matches this week, going 2 1/2 hours or more in three of his four singles matches.
But he still clocked less time on court than he did while winning the longest match in history at Wimbledon, though conditions in Atlanta were far tougher because of the heat and humidity.
On Saturday, Isner spent four hours on court between winning his singles semifinal and losing the doubles.
