Kevin Anderson pulled off the biggest upset of this year's Wimbledon tournament on Wednesday, rallying from match point down in the third set to pull off a 2-6, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11 victory over top seed and eight-time champion Roger Federer.
Here are five takeaway stats from the four-hour and 14-minute stunner on No. 1 Court:
1. Anderson is just the third player ever to beat Federer from two sets down at a Grand Slam tournament
The 20-time Grand Slam champion's only comparables are against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the 2011 Wimbledon quarterfinals (3-6, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4) and to Novak Djokovic the same season's US Open semifinals (6-7 (7), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5).
2. He snapped Federer’s potentially historic set-winning streak at Wimbledon.
The first and second sets of the match were Federer’s 33rd and 34th consecutive sets won at Wimbledon, tying his own record—he also won 34 straight at SW19 from the third round in 2005 to the final in 2006.
3. He snapped Federer’s streak of 85 straight service holds.
This Federer stretch dated back to the eighth game of the opening set of his semifinal match against Tomas Berdych at Wimbledon last year. Anderson ended up breaking Federer four times today.
