President Obama’s top advisers on historic preservation tell the Daily News they will push to rescue the Forest Hills tennis stadium, the former site of the U.S. Open. They will also attempt to save the New York Pavilion, which was part of the 1964 World’s Fair. "Once you lose a particular artifact, a building or whatever else, you lose both the visual and cultural touch with society," said Milford Donaldson, the chairman of the Advisory Council on Historical Preservation. Donaldson added that he will push to put both sites on a list of the country's 11 most endangered historic places.
New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission recently declared the crumbling stadium is too architecturally "compromised" to warrant landmark status.
