Economic difficulties led Mariano Puerta to declare bankruptcy in a Buenos Aires court earlier this week, report Argentine press.

Puerta was suspended for two years and had to pay back more than $800,000 after testing positive for a banned stimulant during his run to the 2005 French Open finalist. Since returning to the circuit, the 31-year-old Argentine has played challenger and futures events with limited success. He is currently ranked No. 312 and earned just over $20,000 this year.
