Mariano Puerta is now coaching fellow Argentine Brian Dabul and is with him this week in Memphis. The partnership is said to have started in December.
Puerta, who lost to Rafael Nadal in the 2005 French Open final, was twice suspended for doping. He served a nine month suspension in 2003 and 2004; at the end of 2008, he was suspended for eight years. The sentence was later reduced on appeal to two years. Puerta returned to play in 2007, competing mostly in Futures and Challengers. The 32-year-old retired after the 2009 season.—Matthew Cronin
