The U.S. Open takes place in the buzzing New York City borough of Queens, a highly populated area amid a hotbed of activity. Traffic on the way to the event can be standstill and parking can be chaotic—not to mention expensive. To maximize your U.S. Open experience, it makes the most sense to take public transportation to USTA’s National Tennis Center.

There are a variety of ways to get to Flushing Meadows without stepping foot in a car. If you choose to take the subway, hop on the 7 train and get off at the Mets-Willets Point stop, a short walk away from the complex. From Long Island or Midtown Manhattan, the Long Island Railroad’s Port Washington Line also stops at this station. There are also bus routes to the tennis center: the Q23, Q48 and Q58 busses all stop nearby.

If you decide to drive, both the Grand Central Parkway and the Long Island Expressway provide access to the tennis center. If you’re coming from the west, take the Grand Central Parkway and get off at the Northern Boulevard East exit (9E). Continue straight and make a left at the second stop sign. If you’re coming from the east, take the Grand Central Parkway and get off at the Tennis Center exit (9P). Turn left off of the exit ramp and then right onto Meridian Road. And if you’re taking the Long Island Expressway, get off at the College Point Boulevard exit. Continue down Avery Avenue and make a left, followed by a right at the stop sign. Make another right at the next stop sign, and the road will take you directly to the National Tennis Center.

Regardless of which mode of transportation you choose, make sure to have a plan and leave yourself plenty of time. The U.S. Open draws major crowds from throughout the area and beyond, and you won’t want to miss any tennis.
