PARIS (AP)—American Robby Ginepri has reached the third round at the French Open for the second time in his career.
In a matchup of unseeded players Friday, the 98th-ranked Ginepri beat No. 60 Potito Starace of Italy 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.
Ginepri, of Kennesaw, Ga., had lost in the first round at five of the previous seven Grand Slam tournaments. He also was a first-round loser in six of his first seven appearances at Roland Garros; the exception was in 2008, when he made it all the way to the fourth round.
Ginepri’s top showing at a major tournament was reaching the semifinals of the 2005 U.S. Open. He joins top U.S. man Andy Roddick in the third round at Roland Garros this year.
