MADRID (AP) Julia Goerges beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-2 Friday to reach the Madrid Open semifinals.
The German fired six aces and didn't drop a service game while breaking her Russian opponent three times for her 10th straight victory. The 27th-ranked Goerges was coming off a win over top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki in the third round.
She next plays fourth-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, who defeated Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil was the first men's player to reach the semifinals when he followed up his third-round upset of Andy Murray to win a battle of baseliners against seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 7-6 (2), 6-3.
