NEW YORK(AP) Carly Gullickson and Travis Parrott of the United States have won their first Grand Slam title by upsetting defending champions Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Leander Paes of India 6-2, 6-4 in the mixed doubles final Thursday.

The 22-year-old Gullickson is the daughter of former major league pitcher Bill Gullickson, who played for five teams and led the American League with 20 wins for the Detroit Tigers in 1991.

Gullickson and Parrott were unseeded and given a wild-card invitation by the tournament. She never before had played mixed doubles at a Grand Slam tournament.

They knocked off the top three seeded teams en route, including the No. 2 pairing of Black and Paes.
