OEIRAS, Portugal (AP)—Sixth-seeded Robin Haase recovered from a shaky first set to beat Simone Bolelli 6-3, 6-2 Monday and advance to the second round of the Estoril Open.

The Dutchman saved a break point in the fifth game and broke Bolelli in the following game. The Italian broke right back for 4-3 and then saved four break points in the next game before Haase converted the fifth to take a decisive lead. He closed out the set with his second ace.

Haase looked more comfortable in the second set and ended the match with 23 unforced errors compared to 43 for Bolelli.

Fifth-seeded Denis Istomin also went through on the clay, defeating Paul-Henri Mathieu 7-5, 6-1.

In the women's first round, top-seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy, a semifinalist at the Mexican Open, dropped a set as she overcame Russia's Nina Bratchikova 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.

Seventh-seeded Nadia Petrova of Russia made light work of Portugal's Barbara Luz, winning 6-0, 6-1.
