Before we start flexing our sore limbs and muscles again after an epic U.S. Open, I’d like to acknowledge the end of an era at TENNIS and TENNIS.com. Liza Horan, the who was the master puppeteer of TENNIS.com from Day One (somewhere back around 1990) until recently is moving on to pursue other opportunities—of which she apparently has no shortage!
For starters, she has a thriving 1980s-cover band, Limelight, which plays around a lot in new York City, specializing in tunes from the likes of U2, The Breeders, Nena, The Go-Go's (My sources say she does killer vocals on the B-52’s hit Love Shack . . . Liza also has her own company specializing in dichroic glass jewelry, which I think has something to do with NASA or Star Wars or something like that. In addition, Liza has a web-consulting outfit and a tennis-trade news service.
Say uncle yet?
How about this: she also manages a children’s book retailer's website and will continue to write articles for, among others, Racquet Sports Industry magazine.
And did I mention that Liza was re-elected president of the U.S. Tennis Writers Association (she’s been on the USTWA board since 1997)?
Man, this girl gets around!
Anyway, TennisWorld wishes her the best of luck. She’s off to Block Island (N.Y.) and Newport, R.I. with her beau Alex as I write this, and she’s all fired up about playing on the grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame—a must-do when you’re in Newport.
If you want to reach Liza, you an e-mail her here or here.
Rock on, Liza! You had a great run.
